THE THINGS WE DO FOR LOVE

THE THINGS WE DO FOR LOVE ❤️

Have you ever loved someone so much that you started doing things you once told yourself you would never do?

I mean, the kind of love that makes you put your pride aside, ignore your friends' advice, and keep giving someone chances even when you're tired.

The kind that makes you cry at night but still smile when they call.

Let me tell you something I think a lot of us can relate to.

Imagine saving the little money you have because you want to buy something for yourself. Maybe a dress you've been admiring for weeks, a pair of shoes you've wanted for a long time, or simply something nice because you feel you deserve it.

Then your partner calls and tells you they're going through something.

Without thinking twice, you send them the money.

You tell yourself, "It's okay. I can always buy it another time. At least, the person I love is fine."

And you genuinely mean it.

You don't even expect them to pay you back immediately. You just want to be there for them.

But what happens when it's your turn to need someone?

What happens when you're the one having a bad day, when you need someone to talk to, or when you just want to hear, "Don't worry, baby. I've got you"?

Suddenly, the person you would inconvenience yourself for seems too busy to do the same for you.

And the painful part?

You still find yourself making excuses for them.

Maybe they're stressed.

Maybe they're tired.

Maybe you're expecting too much.

So you swallow your disappointment, say you're fine, and carry on as if nothing happened.

But later that night, when you're alone with your thoughts, you start asking yourself questions you don't even have the courage to say out loud.

Am I asking for too much?

Would it really be that difficult for this person to show up for me the way I show up for them?

If I stopped doing all these things, would they still love me the same way?

Sometimes, those questions hurt more than the actual situation.

Because deep down, you don't want to believe that the love you've been giving so freely might not be coming back to you in the same way.

And that's where things get complicated.

You remember how it all started. The late-night conversations, the random messages, the way they used to check on you without being asked.

You remember the little things that made you fall in love.

So you hold on to those memories, hoping things will go back to how they used to be.

You tell yourself that every relationship has its difficult moments.

And that's true. No relationship is perfect.

But sometimes, we use that truth to justify things that are slowly breaking our hearts.

We forgive things we once promised ourselves we would never tolerate.

We apologize just to end arguments, even when we know we weren't wrong.

We pretend not to care about things that actually hurt us because we're afraid that speaking up will push the person away.

And before we realize it, we're no longer enjoying the relationship. We're just trying to keep it.

Have you ever noticed how you can be having the worst day, but the moment that person calls, you suddenly find the energy to sound happy?

You don't want them to know you're hurting because you don't want to stress them.

You listen to their problems, encourage them, make them laugh, and tell them everything will be fine.

Then the call ends.

And there you are again, alone with the same problems you didn't even get the chance to talk about.

Nobody tells you how lonely it can feel to be someone's comfort while secretly wishing someone would comfort you, too.

And sometimes, the person you're doing all this for doesn't even realize how much you're carrying.

Not necessarily because they're evil, but because you've become so good at saying, "I'm fine," that they've stopped asking whether you really are.

That's something I've come to think about when it comes to love.

Sometimes, we teach people how to treat us by what we repeatedly accept.

We keep saying it's okay when it isn't.

We keep saying we understand when, honestly, we're tired of understanding.

We keep giving another chance because we hope this time will be different.

And when it isn't, we blame ourselves for expecting too much instead of asking whether we're receiving enough.

But here's something worth remembering.

Love is supposed to involve sacrifice, but it shouldn't always be the same person making the sacrifices.

There will be days when you carry your partner, and there will be days when they carry you.

There will be times when one person has more to give than the other.

That's life.

But if you're always the one adjusting, always the one understanding, always the one reaching out after an argument, and always the one afraid of losing the relationship, eventually, you have to ask yourself what you're holding on to.

Because there's a difference between loving someone through a difficult season and being the only person trying to keep the relationship alive.

And the hardest part?

You can love someone deeply and still have to admit that the relationship is hurting you.

You can miss someone and still know that going back isn't the right decision.

You can remember the beautiful moments without pretending the painful ones never happened.

Walking away doesn't always mean you stopped loving someone.

Sometimes, it means you finally understood that your love for them shouldn't require you to abandon yourself.

And no, I'm not saying we should stop being kind, stop sacrificing, or start keeping score in our relationships.

I'm saying that while you're busy making sure the person you love is okay, remember to check on yourself, too.

Your feelings matter.

Your needs matter.

Your peace matters.

You deserve to experience the kind of love where you don't always have to explain why you need care, too.

Because at the end of the day, one of the saddest things about love is realizing that you spent so much time trying not to lose someone else that you slowly lost yourself.

And perhaps that's the lesson some of us need to learn.

Love people genuinely, give when you can, forgive when it's right, but never believe that you must suffer to prove that your love is real.

❤️ Let me ask you something, and please be honest.

Have you ever sacrificed something important to yourself for someone you loved, only to realize that they probably wouldn't have done the same for you?

What happened, and if you had the chance to go back, would you make the same decision?
