The Unwilling Killer in Court

My first exposure to the Lindsay Clancy case was a meme, a very funny one. The image showed a child filled with fear and doubt because of his mother's support for Lindsay Clancy.

‎

‎It was reported that Lindsay was suffering from postpartum psychosis and other mental conditions that made her strangle her three kids to death. I would have sided with some people's opinion that concluded that she did it on purpose because it was reported that she sent her husband on an errand before committing this grievous crime. Thinking of it, I asked myself what can possibly be the gain of a mother by killing her children. This made me concluded that she killed them not for anything but because of the presence of a higher force in her upstairs. I think it was after she realized what she has done that was when she attempted suicide by jumping from a second floor window.

‎

‎I've read a similar true story of a black slave woman, Margaret Garner, who

‎in 1856 escaped from a Kentucky plantation with her husband, Robert, and their children. They sought refuge in Ohio, but their owner and law officers soon caught up with the family. Before their recapture, Margaret killed her young daughter to prevent her return to slavery.

‎

‎This story made me know that this is not something that started now though that of Margaret in some sense differs from the situation of Lindsay. The truth remains that anyone suffering from this type or similar disease will believe that what they are doing is to spare their victims from suffering.

‎

‎After a thorough look into the case, I concluded that calling a spade a spade will help to avoid some unnecessary scenario in the nearest future. It is right to say a criminal is a criminal and should be treated as one whether sane or otherwise.

‎

‎We can not dispute the fact that a crime has been committed and justice should be allow take its course though justice should be tempered with mercy in this case. Sentimentally, the preferable option for almost everyone out there is that the poor woman should be free. But logically, the poor woman will continue to be a threat to her society. Letting her go scot-free is like weakening the strong hands of justice.

‎

‎Some people might want to use the breach in justice on this case as a legal ground to execute their evil plan. For example, a heartless woman ready to dish her children for money, might do something like this under the pretense of being controlled by this disease because she knows not will be done against her as long as she hides under this defense.

‎

‎I'm not writing as a heartless man, who doesn't know the pain of a mother that lose her children by killing them by herself through the influence of a stronger force. I'm only advocating that justice must be served and potential threat should not be allowed in our society.

‎

‎

‎

‎
