What Exactly Is the Problem?

There is something about growing old that nobody talks about enough.

The people who once carried their entire family on their shoulders eventually reach a point where they need the children to carry them.

And that is where things sometimes become complicated.

Parents can spend decades raising their children. Paying school fees. Putting food on the table. Sacrificing their comfort. Giving up things they wanted for themselves just to give their children a better life.

Then the children grow up.

They get married. Have children of their own. Find jobs, or struggle to find one. Pay rent. Pay school fees. Handle debts. Build lives that now demand almost everything from them.

Then their parents grow old.

The father can no longer work as he used to. The mother needs medical attention. The house needs repairs. There are bills to pay.

And suddenly, the people who once provided for everyone are the ones asking the children for help. They need the fruits of their labor.

It should be simple, shouldn’t it?

But sometimes it isn’t.

One child says, “I have school fees to pay.”

Another says, “Things are difficult.”

Another has lost their job.

Another lives too far away.

Some are already carrying the financial burden of their own family.

And perhaps someone else has enough but simply doesn’t want to help.

So the question becomes uncomfortable:

Is it ingratitude, or is life simply too expensive?

Because the truth is, not every child who cannot help is a bad child.

Some are genuinely struggling.

But hardship cannot explain everything either. There are people who have the means to help their parents and simply choose not to.

So where do we draw the line between “I cannot” and “I do not want to”?

Maybe the problem was never love.

Maybe they all love their parents.

Maybe the problem is that the same children who were once dependent on their parents are now adults with families, responsibilities and struggles of their own.

And perhaps that is the uncomfortable reality we don’t like to discuss:

Children are not guaranteed retirement plans.

They grow up. They struggle. They succeed. They fail. They have families of their own.

And sometimes, despite all the love in a family, everyone is simply trying to survive.

So tell me honestly:

When parents who sacrificed everything for their children grow old, what exactly makes it so difficult for their children to care for them?

Is it the economy?

Is it family responsibilities?

Is it poor planning?

Is it ingratitude?

Or is it simply the reality of adulthood?

What exactly do you think the problem is?

At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.

Contributor Rankings

The all-time contributors ranking is based on the Contributor Score, which is a measure of all the engagement and exposure a contributor's content receives.
The monthly contributors ranking tracks performance of a user's insights for the current month. The monthly and all-time scores are calcuated DIFFERENTLY.
This page also shows the top engagers on an all-time & monthly basis.
