At What Point Did We All Become Dangote Shareholders? 😂

Something very funny is happening in Nigeria.

A few weeks ago, many of us were simply watching Dangote Refinery from the outside.

But now?

It has become:

“Our refinery.”

“Our company.”

“Our truck.”

“My Workers.” 😂

Nigerians have entered this Dangote IPO with a level of confidence that deserves its own comedy show. 😭

Someone buys a few shares and suddenly:

“Please tell our driver to be careful with that truck.”

“Have you spoken to our management?”

“When are we changing the company name?”

“Guy, how is our refinery?”

OUR REFINERY. 😂😂

Somewhere, Dangote himself might just be looking around thinking:

“Wait… when did all these people become my directors?”

And honestly, I can't even blame anybody.

The whole thing has become a national conversation.

WhatsApp statuses.

Instagram posts.

LinkedIn.

Group chats.

Everybody is suddenly talking about shares, dividends, ownership, investments and the stock market.

Even people who probably couldn't explain a share three weeks ago are now proudly introducing themselves as shareholders.

And me?

I'm watching too.

Because, honestly, I've also looked at this thing and thought:

“Should I put some of my small money here?”

Not because I suddenly became an investment guru.

I'm just curious.

What if it actually grows?

What if I put my little money there and, years from now, look back and say:

“I was there from the beginning.”

But then another thought comes:

What if it doesn't?

And that's where the joke becomes a real conversation.

Because behind all the “our refinery” cruise, something interesting is happening.

People are becoming curious about ownership.

People want their money to do something.

People want to participate in businesses they have spent years watching from the outside.

People who have never bought shares before are suddenly asking:

“How do I become a shareholder?”

And I think that part is worth appreciating.

Because maybe the IPO has done something beyond raising money.

It has made ordinary Nigerians start asking questions about the stock market.

But there is one thing I think we should remember while enjoying the cruise:

Being a shareholder is not the same thing as understanding what you own.

You can buy shares and still know very little about the company.

You can put ₦5,250 into an investment and still not understand what could make its value rise or fall.

And you can confidently say “our refinery” while owning such a tiny fraction that the refinery probably doesn't know your name. 😂

So before we start requesting our boardroom seats, maybe we should first understand what we have actually bought.

Because investing should be more than excitement.

It should come with curiosity.

Questions.

Learning.

Patience.

And some understanding of the risks.

But honestly, I love the fact that Nigerians are talking about this.

For years, conversations about investing could feel like something reserved for people in suits who speak financial English nobody understands.

Now someone can casually say:

“I bought shares.”

And five people immediately ask:

“How?”

That's a conversation worth having.

So yes, I'm still watching.

I'm calculating.

I'm asking questions.

I'm wondering.

I'm tempted.

But I'm also trying to understand before putting my money where my excitement is.

Now let's bring the cruise to TwoCents. 😂

If you had ₦5,250 today, would you consider buying the minimum 10 shares?

Are you interested because you understand the opportunity?

Are you thinking long-term?

Do you simply want to own a tiny piece of the company?

Are you trying to learn how the stock market works?

Or…

have you just seen everybody shouting “OUR REFINERY” and decided you too must collect your own share? 😂😭

And to everyone who has already become a shareholder:

How is our company doing?

When is our board meeting?

Who is bringing the minutes?

And please…

who approved this “our truck” matter? 😂

Maybe the biggest thing we are investing in right now isn't even money.

Maybe we're investing in learning how ownership works.
