Dear world,You failed Elizabeth

I was only a child. I needed someone to believe me, someone to protect me, someone to remind me that the world could still be kind. Instead, I was left to face my nightmares alone.

I was starved, beaten, and sexually abused, by my mom and stepdad. But because he’s a Methodist pastor, people turned their heads.

I’m Elizabeth and my family calls me Eli. I was 7 when they got married. Before then, my life was everything it was supposed to be. I was the bubbly girl, with all the jokes and laughter. As I sit here and write this, I can tell you I will always miss that girl.

First it was the name calling, then it went to physical. From being slapped by my mother, to then being forced to take off all of my clothes, while she whooped me ,to my stepdad harassing me, then to the main molestation.

After being beaten for mistakes I did and did not do- a norm it was,I was then thrown into a very dark room . I was terrified of the dark, so I curled my body into a ball for not only that, but for warmth. But I still loved my mama. That was the part I never knew how to explain.I was always my mama’s girl…

They would put a sticky note on the fridge, with what I had to eat for the day. That’s if they allowed me to eat for that day. They would have a number beside the food, to show me the amount I was allowed to get, to be sure I didn’t get any extra.

I knew what was happening to me was wrong, but I wanted to trust my mama.

Along the way, I stopped.

The hoping

The wishing

The molestation and maltreatment continued .

I told my school guidance counselor one day after I could not endure it anymore else , I don't know . She reported to the school's authorities, some officers were invited and they escorted me home . But once they came to the house and saw my stepdad was a pastor, they no longer listened, and it got only worse for me.

I wished for death but it was too merciless not to take me .

Till I was 16................

I was at home left alone with my stepdad dad. My mum was out of town .

(Yes we stay alone .No neighbors)

The first two days my stepdad was always coming into my room -day and night .Then the third day. I had decided that I was going to do anything to protect myself and I did .I already had the kitchen knife underneath my pillow when he came in .If only he knew that was going to be the last time he had his breath. That night,as he was touching me ,I was reaching for the knife and crying too ,not for the abuse but the fact that I was about to do something that has no definition of what await me later on .

I stabbed him .

Twice

He screamed in horror

I was scared ?

Somewhat

I watched him struggle for his life

I took his phone and called his wife .Not my mum anymore, nah

I told her to return home that her husband was dead . I called one emergency number I once or twice heard from my stepfather's radio whenever he was listening to news early in the morning .I didn't care to know what their job was or is , inasmuch my message got relayed

Like an hawk ,she arrived the next morning. But she actually met my remains .

Officers too

I couldn't bear the fact of adding the pain from the haunt of being a killer with the pains I already had

I had kept my diary on the table so they -officers and whoever ,won't be in the dark

And to my school.......

I hope everyone pay closer attention to every child

Note: You all can add up every story you wish . I will resting anyways .From unprotection and Pain

Say me well .A safe trip to the wonderful beyond

Shortie : When a child finally gathers the courage to speak, will we listen—or will we give them another reason to remain silent?"

Not every child who suffers gets to tell a survival story. Some suffer in silence until their stories end with them. And sometimes, the tragedy isn't that nobody knew they were hurting; it's that someone knew, and still, nobody saved them

This is a fictional story abeg

NB: Not every story has a happy ending same as not every victim becomes a survivor.
