Every year, she watched her mother sleep with younger men...

Every year, I watched my mother sleep with younger men after my father had died. She had turned the house into a brothel, going loose and sleeping with whoever she did.

Eventually, one of her thirsty conquests found me worthy and abused me. Not once, but multiple times, and I couldn’t say anything. My mother was so traumatised from my father’s death that she lost herself.

She continued with her tramp act, and eventually left me on my own. She left me and my brother homeless, and not just that, when my older brother pulled through, she had dropped her youngest son with us to take care of him while she continued to tour the world as a prostitute.

That’s not where I am going. When I grew up, I picked up her habits. I started experimenting with drugs; I got involved with a man who wasn’t right for me. Eventually, I joined the strip club and started sleeping with men for money.

All my life, I had wished I wouldn’t be like my mother.

All for me to turn out like her and now be pregnant with a man who was married to my brother’s mistress.

What a life.

That’s the life of Nadia Darcie in my book, finding Nathaniel.

Okay, beautiful one, calm down. It can’t be me. One, my mother is a Proverbs 31 woman, but most importantly, she raised me right.

Every year on the International Day of the Girl Child, I am reminded how important it is to set a good example of the kind of woman everyone needs to be, and the kind of woman I want my children to be.

I know, children? Quite far. But it’s true. Sometimes, our children notice what we do, and even though they can’t understand or swear they would never do it, they still do it and become it.

Look at Nadia, who hated her mother all her life, only to turn out like her.

So, let me tell you and urge you. This International Day of the Girl Child and forever, let’s remember how far our actions can take us, and how they influence others.

Let’s step in and actually try to protect women or girls.

I love it when I see girls fight for each other. There was a clip of Beauty in Black where Roy was about to beat his wife, and then Kimmie and the other girl stepped in and beat the heck out of him.

That’s girl power. I’m not saying you should take on the chain-smoker on your street because of your neighbour (I mean, if you can), but I’m saying we should be better, and if you find yourself in government or making policies, fight for women.

I pledged myself that wherever God takes me in government, anyone who takes advantage of a girl- and God help you- if she is disabled, you will not only serve jail time, but there would be a mandatory deliverance session every week, because it takes a level of wickedness to do that.

So, that’s my rant for you this weekend.

Have a great day.

And if you need me to frustrate anyone who has been frustrating you, just let me know.

I’m down like mad.

Want to see how Nadia’s story unfolds?
