SUNDAY TWISTS
Where faith meets fresh perspective.

MOUNT. FAMILY — THE UNRAVELING

Last week, we asked:

What happens when honouring your parents appears to conflict with obeying God?

Now, let's unravel it.

First...

The foremost thing to consider is whether you actually heard God...

Are you sure?

Because before you make a life-changing decision and attach God's name to it, you must be willing to examine that conviction.

Pray.

Search the Scriptures.

Seek mature, godly counsel.

Test what you believe you've heard.

Because sometimes, what we call God's voice is simply our own desire wearing religious clothing.

After you have thoroughly examined it and you truly believe God is leading you....

Then comes the difficult part:

Obedience.

The Bible says:

“The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD...”

— Proverbs 21:1

So you don't have to manipulate your parents.

You don't have to force them to understand.

You don't have to compromise what you believe God is asking of you simply because you cannot yet see how everything will work out.

The God who can turn the heart of a king can deal with the hearts of your parents.

And David said:

“When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.”

— Psalm 27:10

That's a painful possibility.

Because sometimes obedience to God may cost you the approval of people you love.

But here's the question:

Would you rather lose the approval of your family or lose your obedience to God?

Honour your parents.

Love your family.

But neither your parents nor your family can occupy the position that belongs to God in man's life

And that brings us to the question someone raised from Numbers 30.

"Doesn't Numbers 30 give the father or husband authority over a woman's vow?"

Yes—but context matters.

Numbers 30 was dealing specifically with vows and pledges of the Israelites.

It isn't a blanket declaration that a father or husband possesses unlimited authority over certain decisions a woman makes.

The father or husband was given authority to nullify a vow that the woman makes herself, but in this scenario... GOD'S verdict is what we're dealing with so it can't be rendered invalid.

NB: Before you start thinking of "Gender Discrimination", this has already been treated in a previous season of Sunday Twists. You can read it for better understanding. (Season 2 Episode 10 Gender Twists)

And when interpreting Old Testament laws today, we cannot simply lift a passage out of its covenant context and apply it mechanically.

Jesus said:

“I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.”

— Matthew 5:17

So we read the Old Testament through the fulfillment found in Christ, and we consider how the New Testament writers apply these principles to believers.

A verse can be correctly quoted and incorrectly applied.

That's why biblical interpretation requires more than finding a verse that appears to support our position.

We must know the "Who", "when", "where" and the circumstances surrounding that passage.

We must also note how Christ fulfills it.

And how the apostles taught Christians to live it out

So...

Honour your parents.

But don't make them God.

Love your family.

But don't make family your highest authority.

And if you genuinely know God has spoken—

Obey Him.

Not because obedience guarantees an easy road.— It will almost always not be easy.

Not because everyone will immediately understand.— You will seem mad to a lot.

But because sometimes faithfulness means walking through a door before you can see what's on the other side.

Maybe one day your family will understand.

Maybe they won't!!

But your responsibility was never to make everyone agree with God's instruction to you.

Your responsibility was to obey.

And perhaps the biggest twist is this:

The question was never simply, “Will you choose your family or God?”

It was:

“When the two appear to be in conflict, have you truly heard God—and if you have, will you trust Him enough to obey?”

PEACE✋😌🤚

At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.

The all-time contributors ranking is based on the Contributor Score, which is a measure of all the engagement and exposure a contributor's content receives.
The monthly contributors ranking tracks performance of a user's insights for the current month. The monthly and all-time scores are calcuated DIFFERENTLY.
