MY FUNERAL

I was there! Yes, at the funeral.🥺

I walked in through the door and sat bedside this lady who asked "Have I seen you before?" I replied with a smile, "No, it's kind of complicated, you know'. I turned to the speaker to listen and hear what man he was. I was really curious to hear what people really had to say say, to let them vent out and spill everything they disliked and lay out the flaws, the pain and harm he might have caused. No one is perfect, I'm no exception. I was there to listen to some post life correction.

But, here's the thing, no one even talked about anything on my list, and when they did, they talked about it as if it was something they missed.

I watch a young lady said " He can really be a jerk, disturbing your peace, opening the door unannounced, taking your money in your front and claims your money, our money". I watched her giggled with drop of tears rolling down her cheek. It was hard to form maturity there, but I quickly controlled the tears though it had already dropped without my permission.

I watched a woman around her 60s walked to the stage, the resemblance was there with the last girl, she bursts into tears even before she began to say any word. The atmosphere was tensed, so full of sadness. And when she finally found the courage to talk "He was a blessing to our family, the best child you can ever ask for... "

I watched them talked, smiled at the parts he never learned to love, the insecurity, the supposed immaturity, and what he assumed to be flaws.

Tears began to fill my eyes and flow down my cheeks, I realised we live life based on what we thought they thought of us. Finally it was my turn to speak. A friend, the moderator, Aliyah. "Will you mind saying something?"

I took the mic and said with teary eyes. "I can't believe what I just heard, you all know me in a different way, but you still love the parts of me I hate. I thought I was broken and spoilt, but you loved me through those mistakes. This is something I wish I knew how to do, so I could love not who I thought I was rather than the me you guys know."

See when we are on earth, we judge ourselves a little too hard and not notice what we give ourselves.

I wish we could go to our own funerals so we could see our imperfections are the least significant part of who we are supposed to be.

Catalyst ✍️

inspired by Joseph.
