Dear TwoCents,

I think it is time I said something that I probably should have said much earlier.

Thank you.

Thank you for giving me a space where my thoughts can breathe, where my experiences can become stories, and where the little things I notice every day can turn into conversations that people actually want to have.

When I started sharing my TwoCents, I honestly did not know where it would lead. I only knew I had thoughts. Lots of them. Some serious. Some ridiculous. Some emotional. Some unnecessarily dramatic. Some that probably should have remained inside my head.

But somehow, TwoCents gave all of them a home.

And somewhere along the line, something beautiful happened.

I started discovering another side of myself.

The journalist in me learned that not every story needs a headline. The writer in me discovered that sometimes the smallest human experience can carry the biggest lesson. The storyteller in me realised that you don't always need celebrities, breaking news or billion-naira figures to make people stop scrolling.

Sometimes, all you need is one honest thought.

TwoCents has allowed me to experiment.

I have written about love, friendship, heartbreak, ego, human behaviour, relationships, disappointment, ambition, silence, pride, forgiveness, adulthood, and those strange little moments that happen between people every day.

I have laughed through some pieces.

I have questioned myself through others.

I have written things that sounded completely unserious until I realised there was actually a serious lesson hiding underneath them.

And that, perhaps, is one of the greatest things TwoCents has given me: the freedom to be many versions of myself as a writer.

I can be BigDan the journalist.

I can be BigDan the storyteller.

I can be BigDan the observer.

I can be BigDan the philosopher who suddenly thinks he has figured out life at 2 a.m.

I can even be BigDan who leaves a group chat because someone got me emotional.

And somehow, TwoCents accommodates all of it.

Looking back, I realise that I have achieved more here than I initially imagined.

I have become more confident in my voice.

I have become more intentional with my words.

I have learned how to take ordinary situations and find extraordinary meaning in them.

Most importantly, I have learned that my perspective matters.

Not because I always have the right answer, but because there is value in asking the right question.

TwoCents has also reminded me that writing does not always have to be about proving how intelligent you are.

Sometimes, it is simply about making someone feel seen.

Maybe somebody reads a piece and laughs after having a terrible day.

Maybe somebody reads another and realises they are not alone.

Maybe somebody gets offended.

Maybe somebody sends it to a friend and says, “This is exactly what I was trying to say.”

Maybe somebody reads it months later and remembers a particular sentence.

That is impact too.

And I am grateful for every bit of it.

I am grateful for the readers who have stayed with me.

For those who react.

For those who disagree.

For those who silently read without saying a word.

For those who send messages.

For those who have shared my pieces.

For those who have occasionally wondered, “What exactly is BigDan talking about this time?”

You have all become part of the journey.

And TwoCents itself has become more than just a platform to me.

It has become a little laboratory for ideas.

A playground for words.

A mirror for experiences.

And sometimes, a very affordable therapy session where I write down my thoughts instead of paying someone to listen to them.

But beyond the jokes, I am genuinely proud of how far we have come.

Because every piece has contributed something.

Every headline taught me something.

Every edit made me better.

Every reaction gave me perspective.

Every reader reminded me that words still have power.

And perhaps the biggest achievement is not any particular article or any particular number.

It is the fact that I found a voice that feels like mine.

A voice that doesn't always have to sound perfect.

A voice that can be vulnerable without being weak.

Funny without being shallow.

Serious without being boring.

Provocative without being unnecessarily loud.

And honest without pretending to have life completely figured out.

So, TwoCents…

Thank you for believing that my thoughts were worth sharing.

Thank you for giving my madness a microphone.

Thank you for allowing me to turn random observations into something meaningful.

Thank you for every laugh, every argument, every “BigDan, what is this?”, every “This is actually deep,” and every moment when someone read my words and saw a little bit of themselves in them.

We have achieved a lot.

But I don't think we are done.

There are still stories hiding in ordinary conversations.

There are still lessons hiding in heartbreak.

There are still jokes hiding inside serious situations.

There are still uncomfortable truths waiting to be said.

There are still many more TwoCents to give.

And if this is what we have achieved so far, then I am genuinely excited about what comes next.

So here's to TwoCents.

Here's to the words.

Here's to the readers.

Here's to the madness.

Here's to the lessons.

And here's to the version of BigDan that TwoCents has helped me discover.

Thank you for giving me somewhere to put my two cents.

Apparently, I had a lot more than two.

With appreciation,

BigDan

TwoCents Contributor.
