<p>THE GIRL WHO DREAMED IN RED</p><p><br/></p><p>The knife came down.</p><p><br/></p><p>Chop.</p><p><br/></p><p>The girl hummed softly as she sliced the carrots.</p><p><br/></p><p>Chop.</p><p><br/></p><p>Another piece fell onto the wooden board.</p><p><br/></p><p>She reached for another carrot.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then stopped.</p><p><br/></p><p>Someone was standing behind her.</p><p><br/></p><p>She could feel it.</p><p><br/></p><p>She didn't turn immediately.</p><p><br/></p><p>Her fingers tightened around the knife.</p><p><br/></p><p>Slowly, she looked over her shoulder.</p><p><br/></p><p>A man stood in the doorway.</p><p><br/></p><p>His face was hidden beneath the darkness.</p><p><br/></p><p>“Who are you?” she whispered.</p><p><br/></p><p>He took one step forward.</p><p><br/></p><p>She took one step backward.</p><p><br/></p><p>Another step.</p><p><br/></p><p>Her eyes dropped to the knife in her hand.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then she smiled.</p><p><br/></p><p>The man froze.</p><p><br/></p><p>“What?”</p><p><br/></p><p>She said nothing.</p><p><br/></p><p>Instead—</p><p><br/></p><p>WHOOSH!</p><p><br/></p><p>The knife flew through the air.</p><p><br/></p><p>It struck him.</p><p><br/></p><p>His body jerked.</p><p><br/></p><p>For a moment, everything was completely silent.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then blood began spreading across his shirt.</p><p><br/></p><p>He collapsed.</p><p><br/></p><p>The girl stared at him.</p><p><br/></p><p>No fear.</p><p><br/></p><p>No panic.</p><p><br/></p><p>Nothing.</p><p><br/></p><p>She simply walked toward him.</p><p><br/></p><p>Stopped.</p><p><br/></p><p>Looked down at the blood beneath his body.</p><p><br/></p><p>And whispered:</p><p><br/></p><p>“I told you not to come back.”</p><p><br/></p><p>Then she walked away.</p><p><br/></p><p>The kitchen door slammed behind her.</p><p><br/></p><p>She woke up screaming.</p><p><br/></p><p>Her eyes flew open.</p><p><br/></p><p>Her chest rose and fell rapidly.</p><p><br/></p><p>Darkness.</p><p><br/></p><p>Her bedroom.</p><p><br/></p><p>Her bed.</p><p><br/></p><p>She touched her face.</p><p><br/></p><p>Sweat.</p><p><br/></p><p>She looked at her hands.</p><p><br/></p><p>Clean.</p><p><br/></p><p>No knife.</p><p><br/></p><p>No blood.</p><p><br/></p><p>She laughed nervously.</p><p><br/></p><p>“Just a dream…”</p><p><br/></p><p>Then she heard it.</p><p><br/></p><p>Chop.</p><p><br/></p><p>Her smile disappeared.</p><p><br/></p><p>Chop.</p><p><br/></p><p>Someone was chopping downstairs.</p><p><br/></p><p>She slowly climbed out of bed.</p><p><br/></p><p>Her feet touched the cold floor.</p><p><br/></p><p>Chop.</p><p><br/></p><p>She opened her bedroom door.</p><p><br/></p><p>The hallway was empty.</p><p><br/></p><p>She walked toward the staircase.</p><p><br/></p><p>And then she saw something.</p><p><br/></p><p>Three tiny drops of blood.</p><p><br/></p><p>On the floor.</p><p><br/></p><p>Leading downstairs.</p><p><br/></p><p>She stopped breathing.</p><p><br/></p><p>Chop.</p><p><br/></p><p>She followed them.</p><p><br/></p><p>One step.</p><p><br/></p><p>Two.</p><p><br/></p><p>Three.</p><p><br/></p><p>At the bottom of the stairs, she looked into the kitchen.</p><p><br/></p><p>The light was on.</p><p><br/></p><p>The chopping had stopped.</p><p><br/></p><p>She pushed the door open.</p><p><br/></p><p>Nobody was there.</p><p><br/></p><p>Only a wooden chopping board.</p><p><br/></p><p>And on it—</p><p><br/></p><p>a single carrot.</p><p>Freshly cut.</p><p><br/></p><p>Beside it lay a kitchen knife.</p><p><br/></p><p>She stared at it.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then noticed something carved into the wooden board.</p><p><br/></p><p>Three words.</p><p><br/></p><p>YOU REMEMBERED ME.</p><p><br/></p><p>Her hands began to shake.</p><p><br/></p><p>Because she knew that handwriting.</p><p><br/></p><p>It was hers.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p> Next part ............</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p>
