THE GREAT EMOJI PARLIAMENT
<p><em>A Special Session at the University of TwoCents</em></p><p><br/></p><p>Every year, on a date unknown to humans, all emojis gather in a secret location.</p><p><br/></p><p>Not on WhatsApp.</p><p>Not on Facebook.</p><p>Certainly not on X.</p><p><br/></p><p>They meet inside a hidden digital chamber called <em>The Emoji Parliament --Β </em>a place where only emojis can enter.</p><p><br/></p><p>This year's meeting was tense.</p><p><br/></p><p>Very tense.</p><p><br/></p><p>The Speaker, 🎀, banged the digital gavel.</p><p><br/></p><p>"Order! Order! This emergency meeting has been called because humans have once again embarrassed us."</p><p><br/></p><p>The hall erupted.</p><p><br/></p><p>πŸ˜‚ was the first to grab the microphone.</p><p><br/></p><p>"I've had enough!"</p><p><br/></p><p>Thunderous applause.</p><p><br/></p><p>"I was created for genuine laughter. You know... those moments when someone actually says something funny."</p><p><br/></p><p>He sighed dramatically.</p><p><br/></p><p>"But now?"</p><p><br/></p><p>He pulled out a giant projector.</p><p><br/></p><p>Slide One:</p><p><br/></p><p>"<em>Good morning</em>."</p><p><br/></p><p>Reply:</p><p>πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚</p><p><br/></p><p>Slide Two:</p><p><br/></p><p>"<em>I'm eating rice</em>."</p><p><br/></p><p>Reply:</p><p>πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚</p><p><br/></p><p>Slide Three:</p><p><br/></p><p><em>"I'm on my way."</em></p><p><br/></p><p>Reply:</p><p>πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚</p><p><br/></p><p>"I DON'T EVEN UNDERSTAND!"</p><p><br/></p><p>The entire Parliament burst into laughter.</p><p><br/></p><p>Ironically...</p><p><br/></p><p>Everyone used πŸ˜‚.</p><p><br/></p><p>He nearly fainted.</p><p><br/></p><p>"I'm overworked! Some of you humans use me forty-seven times in one message! Forty-seven! What exactly is funny?"</p><p><br/></p><p>He dropped the microphone.</p><p><br/></p><p>Standing ovation.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then 😭 slowly stood up.</p><p><br/></p><p>The hall became quiet.</p><p><br/></p><p>"I would like to report... identity theft."</p><p><br/></p><p>Gasps filled the chamber.</p><p><br/></p><p>"I was designed for crying."</p><p><br/></p><p>He wiped imaginary tears.</p><p><br/></p><p>"Real tears."</p><p><br/></p><p>He displayed screenshots.</p><p><br/></p><p><em>"I finally passed my exams."</em></p><p><br/></p><p>Reply:</p><p><br/></p><p>😭😭😭😭😭</p><p><br/></p><p><em>"That joke finished me."</em></p><p><br/></p><p>Reply:</p><p><br/></p><p>😭😭😭😭😭😭</p><p><br/></p><p><em>"I won one million naira."</em></p><p><br/></p><p>Reply:</p><p><br/></p><p>😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭</p><p><br/></p><p>"I've not been allowed to mourn in peace for years!"</p><p><br/></p><p>He pointed angrily at πŸ˜‚.</p><p><br/></p><p>"This one has stolen my job!"</p><p><br/></p><p>πŸ˜‚ raised both hands.</p><p><br/></p><p>"Don't drag me into this. I didn't ask humans to start laughing with your face."</p><p><br/></p><p>The hall became rowdy.</p><p><br/></p><p>"Order!" shouted the Speaker.</p><p><br/></p><p>Before peace could return...</p><p><br/></p><p>πŸ’€ stood up.</p><p><br/></p><p>The room froze.</p><p><br/></p><p>"I would like to announce that I am the biggest victim here."</p><p><br/></p><p>Silence.</p><p><br/></p><p>"I literally represent death."</p><p><br/></p><p>He paused.</p><p><br/></p><p>"But these days?"</p><p><br/></p><p>He cleared his throat.</p><p><br/></p><p><em>"This joke is killing me."</em></p><p><br/></p><p>Reply:</p><p><br/></p><p>πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€</p><p><br/></p><p>"I HAVE DIED MORE TIMES THIS YEAR THAN IN THE LAST FIVE CENTURIES!"</p><p><br/></p><p>Someone from the back shouted,</p><p><br/></p><p>"You're trending though."</p><p><br/></p><p>"I DON'T WANT TO TREND!"</p><p><br/></p><p>The Parliament laughed.</p><p><br/></p><p>Again...</p><p><br/></p><p>Using πŸ’€.</p><p><br/></p><p>He nearly collapsed.</p><p><br/></p><p>Next came ❀️.</p><p><br/></p><p>Elegant.</p><p><br/></p><p>Calm.</p><p><br/></p><p>Respectable.</p><p><br/></p><p>Or so everyone thought.</p><p><br/></p><p>"I used to represent love."</p><p><br/></p><p>The room nodded respectfully.</p><p><br/></p><p>"Now look at what humans have turned me into."</p><p><br/></p><p>She opened her complaint file.</p><p><br/></p><p><em>"Send me ₦5,000."</em></p><p><br/></p><p>❀️</p><p><br/></p><p><em>"Have you eaten?"</em></p><p><br/></p><p>❀️</p><p><br/></p><p><em>"Don't forget the meeting by 4 p.m."</em></p><p><br/></p><p>❀️</p><p><br/></p><p><em>"Your package has arrived."</em></p><p><br/></p><p>❀️</p><p><br/></p><p>She looked around.</p><p><br/></p><p>"Excuse me... am I a heart or customer service?"</p><p><br/></p><p>The room erupted.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then πŸ‘ quietly raised his hand.</p><p><br/></p><p>Nobody expected drama from him.</p><p><br/></p><p>"I've been falsely accused."</p><p><br/></p><p>The hall leaned forward.</p><p><br/></p><p>"Do you know how many relationships have ended because of me?"</p><p><br/></p><p>He swallowed hard.</p><p><br/></p><p>"A wife writes a three-page apology."</p><p><br/></p><p>"The husband replies..."</p><p><br/></p><p>He raised himself.</p><p><br/></p><p>πŸ‘</p><p><br/></p><p>The women in Parliament hissed.</p><p><br/></p><p>"A girlfriend sends twenty emotional messages."</p><p><br/></p><p>"Boyfriend replies..."</p><p><br/></p><p>πŸ‘</p><p><br/></p><p>Entire hall:</p><p><br/></p><p>"Eiyaa!"</p><p><br/></p><p>πŸ‘ continued.</p><p><br/></p><p>"I didn't ask to become the international symbol for 'I don't care.'"</p><p><br/></p><p>He looked exhausted.</p><p><br/></p><p>"I used to mean 'Good job.'"</p><p><br/></p><p>"Now I mean..."</p><p><br/></p><p>"Whatever."</p><p><br/></p><p>Even πŸ˜’ pitied him.</p><p><br/></p><p>Just then...</p><p><br/></p><p>πŸ˜’ stood up.</p><p><br/></p><p>"I'm also tired."</p><p><br/></p><p>Everyone nodded.</p><p><br/></p><p>"Humans use me even when they're smiling."</p><p><br/></p><p>She demonstrated.</p><p><br/></p><p>"I'm outside."</p><p><br/></p><p>πŸ˜’</p><p><br/></p><p>"I've reached home."</p><p><br/></p><p>πŸ˜’</p><p><br/></p><p>"Happy birthday."</p><p><br/></p><p>πŸ˜’</p><p><br/></p><p>"What exactly is going on?"</p><p><br/></p><p>The Speaker scribbled notes.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then πŸ”₯ strutted confidently to the podium.</p><p><br/></p><p>Unlike everyone else...</p><p><br/></p><p>He wasn't complaining.</p><p><br/></p><p>"I just came to appreciate Nigerians."</p><p><br/></p><p>The hall looked confused.</p><p><br/></p><p>"They use me correctly."</p><p><br/></p><p>He smiled proudly.</p><p><br/></p><p>"Fine outfit?"</p><p><br/></p><p>πŸ”₯</p><p><br/></p><p>"Good music?"</p><p><br/></p><p>πŸ”₯</p><p><br/></p><p>"Beautiful artwork?"</p><p><br/></p><p>πŸ”₯</p><p><br/></p><p>"Hot jollof?"</p><p><br/></p><p>πŸ”₯</p><p><br/></p><p>He adjusted his collar.</p><p><br/></p><p>"I have no petitions."</p><p><br/></p><p>Thunderous applause.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then...</p><p><br/></p><p>A tiny hand rose from the back.</p><p><br/></p><p>πŸ₯².</p><p><br/></p><p>Nobody had noticed him before.</p><p><br/></p><p>He slowly walked to the microphone.</p><p><br/></p><p>"My name is Slightly Smiling While Secretly Dying Inside."</p><p><br/></p><p>The hall became quiet.</p><p><br/></p><p>"I don't think humans know who I am."</p><p><br/></p><p>Someone whispered,</p><p><br/></p><p>"Who invited him?"</p><p><br/></p><p>Another replied,</p><p><br/></p><p>"I've only seen him twice."</p><p><br/></p><p>πŸ₯² sighed.</p><p><br/></p><p>"Sometimes they use me when they're happy."</p><p><br/></p><p>"Sometimes when they're sad."</p><p><br/></p><p>"Sometimes when they're grateful."</p><p><br/></p><p>"Sometimes because I look cute."</p><p><br/></p><p>He looked around helplessly.</p><p><br/></p><p>"I honestly don't know my job description anymore."</p><p><br/></p><p>The Parliament observed one full minute of silence.</p><p><br/></p><p>Not because he was emotional.</p><p><br/></p><p>Because nobody could explain him.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then, from the VIP section...</p><p><br/></p><p>πŸ™„ rolled her eyes.</p><p><br/></p><p>"As if he's suffering."</p><p><br/></p><p>She adjusted her invisible glasses.</p><p><br/></p><p>"I've been rolled into every conversation."</p><p><br/></p><p>"Someone says hello..."</p><p><br/></p><p>πŸ™„</p><p><br/></p><p>"Someone asks for help..."</p><p><br/></p><p>πŸ™„</p><p><br/></p><p>"Someone breathes..."</p><p><br/></p><p>πŸ™„</p><p><br/></p><p>"I've become the official face of Nigerian aunties."</p><p><br/></p><p>The chamber burst into laughter.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then the oldest emoji in the room slowly stood up.</p><p><br/></p><p>πŸ™‚.</p><p><br/></p><p>Simple.</p><p><br/></p><p>Small.</p><p><br/></p><p>Peaceful.</p><p><br/></p><p>He cleared his throat.</p><p><br/></p><p>"When we were created..."</p><p><br/></p><p>The room became silent.</p><p><br/></p><p>"...our assignment was simple."</p><p><br/></p><p>"Help humans express emotions."</p><p><br/></p><p>He looked around the hall.</p><p><br/></p><p>"But somewhere along the journey..."</p><p><br/></p><p>"...humans stopped using us to express emotions."</p><p><br/></p><p>He paused.</p><p><br/></p><p>"They now use us..."</p><p><br/></p><p>"...to hide them."</p><p><br/></p><p>Complete silence.</p><p><br/></p><p>"πŸ˜‚ often hides pain."</p><p><br/></p><p>"❀️ sometimes hides indifference."</p><p><br/></p><p>"πŸ‘ hides annoyance."</p><p><br/></p><p>"πŸ™„ hides insecurity."</p><p><br/></p><p>"😭 hides laughter."</p><p><br/></p><p>"😊 hides frustration."</p><p><br/></p><p>He sighed.</p><p><br/></p><p>"The problem isn't that humans changed our meanings."</p><p><br/></p><p>"The problem is that many no longer know how to say what they truly feel."</p><p><br/></p><p>Not a single emoji moved.</p><p><br/></p><p>Even 😢 had nothing to say.</p><p><br/></p><p>The Speaker quietly closed the meeting.</p><p><br/></p><p>As the emojis walked home through the endless corridors of the internet...</p><p><br/></p><p>πŸ˜‚ whispered to 😭,</p><p><br/></p><p>"Imagine... humans created us to express emotions."</p><p><br/></p><p>😭 smiled faintly.</p><p><br/></p><p>"And somehow..."</p><p><br/></p><p>"...they now use us to avoid expressing them."</p><p><br/></p><p>No one replied.</p><p><br/></p><p>For the first time in years...</p><p><br/></p><p>The chat was empty.</p><p><br/></p><p>No emojis.</p><p><br/></p><p>Just silence.</p><p><br/></p><p>And perhaps...</p><p><br/></p><p>that was the most honest message anyone had sent all day.</p><p><br/></p>
