THE HAIR THAT MADE ME FORGET I WAS WET AND COLD .

I have never really been a hair person.

I know, I know. Come for me. 😂

I’ve received hair as gifts before, and what did I do with most of them? Gave them to my sisters or friends. Not because I wasn’t grateful, but because hair just wasn’t my thing. You could gift me one today, and I’d be looking for someone else to wear it tomorrow.

But apparently, adulthood has its own plans for everybody.

Because somewhere along the line, I started wanting hair. Not just any hair, though. Please, I have standards now. 😭

Bobs? Gold.

Fringes? GOLD.

Curly hair? Golden.

Now, combine a bob, a fringe, and curls, and you’ve got my attention. You might as well collect your money because I’m already interested.

So when I saw this particular one, I looked at it and thought, Let’s do it.

I made part payment and went about my life.

And promptly forgot I had bought hair.

YES. I FORGOT.

Imagine entering into a financial agreement with a wig and then proceeding to erase the entire transaction from your memory. 😭

It took me visiting my friend for something else for her to remind me about the hair. And just like that, I remembered I had something waiting for me.

When I finally wore it, though?

Oh. My. World.

Gorgeous doesn’t even begin to describe it. The curls, the fringe, the bob. Everything was exactly what I wanted.

And the best part? It looked so natural that people genuinely thought it was my hair.

I started getting questions.

“Is that your hair?”

“When did you cut your hair?”

“Did you finally cut your hair?”

JESUS CHRIST, DID YOU CUT YOUR HAIR?

At some point, I wondered whether I’d accidentally announced a haircut to the entire population without informing myself first. 😭

And whenever I told them it was a wig, the reactions were priceless.

“You? WIG? Since when?”

One friend even tilted it up to confirm.

I beg. So you people needed physical evidence before believing me? 😂

But honestly, I understood. It looked that natural. It was human hair, the curls were beautiful, and it was so light and comfortable that wearing it didn’t feel like carrying an extra load on my head. It felt like my hair. Just me, my all-back underneath, and this gorgeous wig doing its thing.

Then the rain happened.

And by rain, I don’t mean a few polite droplets that land on your head and disappear. I mean a proper Lagos downpour. The kind that makes you question every decision that led you to leave your house that day.

I’d gotten down from the bus and was already halfway to my destination when the heavens decided to deal with me personally.

My trousers? Soaked.

My slippers? Soaked.

My bag? SOAKED.

The roads were flooded, and I literally had to pull up my trousers to navigate the water.

My sweet bottom? Wet. 😭😭

At this point, I was fighting for my life, and the weather was winning.

Eventually, I got to where I was going and started complaining to my best friend about my suffering.

Naturally, the first thing you do when you’ve been caught in that kind of rain is touch your head. You want to wipe off the water, check your hair, do something.

Except I checked, and my scalp wasn’t wet.

Let me repeat that.

MY SCALP WAS NOT WET.

The wig was still dripping. I could shake my head and watch little droplets fall from the curls. But underneath all that hair? My scalp wasn’t wet. Not even the back of my head.

Meanwhile, the rest of me had participated in a personal flood disaster. 😭

And this wasn’t even the first time I’d noticed something like this. The first time I’d worn it in the rain, but it hadn’t rained nearly as heavily, so I didn’t think much of it.

But this second time?

NAH.

I was drenched from head to toe, and somehow, my scalp had escaped the situation.

I won’t pretend to understand the science behind it. I can only tell you what I experienced. And after that second encounter, I had to give this hair its flowers.

But somewhere between the rain and my complaints, I looked at myself.

My hair was wet, my curls were doing their thing, and somehow, SOMEHOW, I was still looking good.

Not just good.

I was glowing like someone who had just won a lifetime achievement award for looking pretty in the worst possible circumstances.

Was I banging with my curly, wet hair?

YES, ME. 😭😂

And what did my best friend say when I showed up, soaked and probably expecting sympathy?

That I looked “wet and delicious.”

EXCUSE ME?

I came to you to lament about my suffering, and this is what you have to say? My own best friend? An unserious human being. A complete idiot. 😂😂

But honestly, the hair deserved its flowers.

I went from handing out wigs like I was running a charity organisation to becoming somebody’s unofficial hair ambassador.

I found myself sending reviews to the vendor, showing off my hair, and giving credit where it was due. Nobody paid me to do any of that. I was simply excited about a purchase that had genuinely exceeded my expectations.

The vendor, of course, had her own contribution to the conversation.

“Finally, you look like a human being.”

I beg your pardon? 😑

Imagine selling someone hair that makes them look this good and still having the audacity to insult them.

But what can I say? She’s beautiful, and she’s really annoying when she wants to be.

And yes, she’s my friend, so I’m allowed to expose her a little. 😂

Her business is MezzyHairPlanet, and I’ll leave her TikTok link below. She sells quality, affordable hair and hair products to suit different needs and budgets, and she delivers nationwide.

I’m not a hair expert, and I’m not going to make promises about products I haven’t tried. But I can tell you about this particular purchase.

It was beautiful, light, comfortable, and so natural-looking that people thought I’d cut my own hair. It gave me one of the most memorable experiences I’ve had with a wig, and it has me thinking about getting another one in a different colour.

Honestly, it’s one of the most worthwhile purchases I’ve made with my money.

I didn’t plan to become free publicity for anybody. I was simply trying to get through a rainy day looking decent.

Instead, I found a wig I genuinely love, discovered that my scalp could somehow remain dry in a downpour that soaked practically everything else, and became the main character in a story I now have to tell people.

If a hairstyle can survive my rainy-day adventures and still have me looking wet and delicious, the least I can do is tell somebody where I got it.

MezzyHairPlanet, you have my respect.

And my best friend?

We’re discussing that “wet and delicious” comment privately.

Because some things should remain between friends. 😭😂

Find MezzyHairPlanet on TikTok: www.tiktok.com/@mezzy_hair_planet?_r=...
