The Old Society vs The New Society: Have We Really Become Better?

Have you ever wondered whether the old society was better than the one we live in today?

Our parents grew up in a world where respect was a major priority, neighbours looked out for one another, children feared disappointing their parents and people often valued commitment over convenience.

Today, the world has changed. Technology has made life easier, social media has given everyone a voice and people are becoming more confident about expressing themselves. We now talk openly about mental health, boundaries, toxic relationships and personal freedom. Things many people in the past struggled to discuss.

But here is the big question: Are we progressing as a society or are we simply changing with time?

In the old society, family values and community support were often stronger but some people suffered in silence because questioning tradition was considered disrespectful. Children were sometimes forced to obey without explanation and many people remained in unhappy marriages just to protect the family name.

In the new society, people are more willing to challenge harmful traditions, choose their own paths and walk away from situations that threaten their peace. However, we are also witnessing increasing pressure to look rich, live a perfect life online, seek validation from strangers and abandon meaningful relationships when things become uncomfortable.

We have gained freedom but have we lost discipline? We have gained technology but have we lost genuine connection? We talk about self-love but sometimes forget kindness towards others.

Perhaps the problem is not that the old society was entirely good or that the new society is entirely bad. Maybe we need to keep the values that made us better while letting go of the traditions that held us back.

We can respect our elders without accepting every outdated belief. We can embrace modern freedom without losing our sense of responsibility.

After all, progress should not only be measured by how far we have come technologically but also by how well we treat one another.

LET'S TALK In The COMMENTS: If you had the choice, would you prefer the old society or the new society, and why?

At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.
