The Problem Is Not Always a Lack of Opportunities

Have you ever wondered why some people keep complaining about a lack of opportunities while others seem to find them almost everywhere?

The truth is that opportunities do not always come in the form we expect. Sometimes, they appear as a small responsibility, a volunteer position, a writing task, an unpaid internship or an opportunity to learn from someone more experienced.

Unfortunately, many young people overlook these experiences because they are waiting for something bigger.

A student may reject volunteering because there is no immediate financial reward. Someone may ignore an internship because the organisation is not popular. Another person may avoid applying for a scholarship or conference because they believe they are not qualified enough.

Of course, not every opportunity is worth pursuing, and young people should be careful about exploitation. But we must also learn to recognise opportunities that can help us grow, develop our skills and build valuable connections.

Sometimes, what you need is not another opportunity but the courage to apply for the one in front of you. At other times, you need to prepare yourself so that when the right opportunity comes, you can make good use of it.

Instead of asking only, “Where are the opportunities?” perhaps we should also ask ourselves, “Am I prepared to recognise and use them?”

What do you think is the biggest reason young people miss opportunities today: lack of information, fear of failure, financial limitations, or lack of preparation?
