THE QUESTION "WHO ARE YOU"

We give our name, perhaps followed by our father’s name. “I am Rain, son of Weather.” And somehow, we believe we have answered the question. But what if we haven’t? What if your name is only what people call you, and not who you are? This question first got stuck in my head about two months ago while I was scrolling through TikTok. I came across a video of an interview where the interviewer asked the person sitting opposite him a very simple question: “Who are you?” The man confidently gave his name. To my surprise, the interviewer told him he was wrong. He explained that he had only given his name, not who he was. The interviewer asked again. This time, the man mentioned his profession, his position, where he was from and other things that seemed to define him. Again: “Wrong.” That caught my attention. Then the interviewer asked him once more. The man tried a different approach. He described himself as gentle, easygoing, the things he liked, the things he hated and the kind of person he believed himself to be. Surely, I thought, this has to be the answer. But once again, the interviewer said he was wrong. He explained that the man was only describing his personality. And then the video ended. I searched for the second part. Nothing. I searched again. Still nothing. And somehow, a simple question from a random video has stayed with me ever since. Because the more I thought about it, the more interesting the question became. If my name isn't who I am… If my profession isn't who I am… If where I come from isn't who I am… And even my personality isn't entirely who I am… Then who am I? Maybe we have spent so much time introducing ourselves that we have forgotten to actually know ourselves. We know what we are called. We know what we do. We know where we come from. We know what we like and dislike. But do we really know who we are? Perhaps that is a question each of us has to answer for ourselves. So, today, I want to pass the question on to you. Forget your name for a moment. Forget your job. Forget your position. Forget where you come from. Forget every label you've been given. And ask yourself, honestly: Who are you? I don't have a satisfying answer yet. Maybe you do. So, esteemed reader… WHO ARE YOU?
