Why Do We Miss People Who Were Bad To/For Us

Maybe We Don't Miss Them. Maybe We Miss What's Familiar.

Have you ever missed someone and then remembered exactly why you had to let them go?

It's confusing

Because if they were so bad for you, why do you still think about them?

Why do you still check their profile?

Why does a random song suddenly remind you of them?

Why do you sometimes wish you could have just one more conversation?

Maybe it's because our minds don't only get attached to people, we get attached to patterns

Their good morning texts became part of your morning

Their voice became part of your routine

Their presence became something your brain expected

Then suddenly, they're gone

And even when the relationship was unhealthy, the absence can feel uncomfortable

There's also something else we rarely talk about, potential

Sometimes you're not grieving the person they actually were.
