You’re not a failure. You’re just a girl. You’re not a failure. You just happened to be born to parents who couldn’t take responsibility for their actions. You’re not a failure. You just happened to be born in a country where sometimes your efforts seem useless until money shows up and stays. You’re not a failure. You just happened to be born in a world where evil sometimes seems to precede good. You’re not a failure. You just happened to be born in a world with a two-second attention span, where everyone is expected to be interesting, successful, beautiful, productive and accomplished before they’ve even figured out who they are. You’re not a failure. You just happened to come from a broken home. You’re not a failure. You just happened to be born in a country where, more often than not, no one looks out for you better than you can look out for yourself. You’re not a failure. You just happened to be born into a world where religion has divided people who were supposed to love one another. Where racism still exists. Where feminism has, in some places, been distorted far beyond its original objective. Where extremists exist in almost every group. Where words can no longer always be taken at face value. Where money has become the measure of worth. Where you can be judged for the family you come from, the body you have, the clothes you wear, the person you love, the things you believe, or the things you cannot afford. Where men and women can be judged by completely different standards for doing the exact same thing. Where you could end up dead simply because you fit a serial killer’s preferred victim profile. Where people are expected to have everything figured out while they’re still learning how to survive. Where comparison is constant. Where everyone seems to be moving forward, even when you’re standing still. Where social media makes someone else’s highlight reel feel like evidence that your life is going nowhere. Where failure is treated like a personality trait instead of what it actually is: an experience. And maybe that is the part we keep forgetting. You are not your circumstances. You are not the amount of money in your account. You are not the degree you’re struggling to get. You are not the job you haven’t found. You are not the relationship that ended. You are not the family you were born into. You are not the mistakes you made at nineteen. You are not behind just because someone else got there first. You are not lazy because you got tired. You are not weak because you cried. You are not a failure because you are still trying to figure things out. The world failed us in many ways. It shaped us. It hardened some of us. It humbled some of us. It broke some of us. And sometimes, it gave up on us before we even had the chance to understand ourselves. But that does not mean you have to give up on yourself. So don't beat yourself up. Take a breath. Smile if you can. Cry if you have to. Scream when you want to. Rest when you need to. Start over as many times as necessary. You don't have to have your entire life figured out right now. You just have to keep going. Try again,from a different angle this time. Don't compare yourself to others. Don't let anyone tell you," you're a man you have to be strong". Let it all out sometimes. Because maybe you aren't a failure. Maybe you're just a human being trying to make sense of a very complicated world. And honestly? That's enough for today.
