Come here.

You. Yes, you.

I’m talking to you that has a PhD in procrastination .

“2026 is my year.”

And your daily routine is nothing to write home about.

Wake up.

Doomscroll.

Eat.

Doomscroll some more.

Eat again.

Bath.

Sleep.

And somehow, in the middle of all this nonsense, you have the audacity to say you’re working on yourself.

You have goals. Ambitions. Plans. A whole Pinterest board dedicated to the person you want to become. You have screenshots of opportunities you will never apply for and drafts of content that will never see daylight.

You want to be famous. You want brands to notice you.

HOW?

You think these brands will wake up one morning, have a dream about you, and send you a contract?

You think opportunity is going to locate you in your room, under your duvet, watching somebody else’s life unfold?

“I’ll start when I gain admission.”

You’re in year three now.

“After graduation, then.”

Postgraduate depression will show you shege. The job market will humble you. Bills will introduce themselves. Everybody will suddenly expect you to have your life together because you now have a certificate and “adult” written across your forehead.

And you’ll still be saying, “I’m trying to figure things out.”

FIGURE WHAT OUT? YOU’VE BEEN FIGURING IT OUT SINCE 2022.

At some point, you have to admit that you are not waiting for the perfect time. You are waiting for a version of yourself that will magically wake up disciplined, confident, talented, financially stable, and completely unafraid of embarrassment.

That woman is not coming to rescue you.

YOU have to become her.

You think you’ll be pretty forever?

You think you’ll be young forever?

You think your twenties are a free trial you can spend doing absolutely nothing before your real life begins?

You think your body will always have this energy? That your parents will always be around to help? That you’ll always have the same freedom, the same friends, the same opportunities, the same access to people who are willing to give you a chance?

Time won’t wait for you.

Nne, it will pass whether you use it or not. The only difference is what you’ll have to show for it when it does.

And before somebody starts shouting, “Everybody has their own timeline!”

YES. WE KNOW.

But having your own timeline is not the same as refusing to move.

Resting is not procrastinating. Being overwhelmed is not a moral failure. Struggling financially is not laziness. Some people are fighting battles you know absolutely nothing about.

The world will not always have the patience to keep reminding you of your potential.

Your friends will grow. Their priorities will change. Some will get jobs, move away, build families, find their people, and start lives that no longer have room for the version of you that refuses to grow.

Not because they’re wicked. Because life is moving.

And no, not everybody will ask how you are. Not everybody will notice that you’re struggling. Not everybody will remember the dreams you told them about three years ago.

You’re an adult now. People have their own problems. Everybody is trying to survive something.

You cannot build your entire life around the hope that somebody will eventually come and save you from yourself.

So, what exactly are you waiting for?

More confidence? Pele o igwe.

Confidence from where? You’ve barely given yourself anything to be confident about.

More money?

Start with what you have. Learn what you can. Build with what is available to you. Not every beginning requires a ring light, a MacBook, a soft life, and an audience of ten thousand people.

More time?

LMAOOOOO.

You have been spending the time you claim you don’t have watching strangers do the things you say you want to do.

ARA E MA BALE.

I PITY YOU.

Not because you haven’t made it yet.

But because you keep convincing yourself that you have forever to become the person you keep dreaming about.

Anyway, continue.

Keep postponing the business.

Keep saving the ideas.

Keep waiting until you’re ready.

Keep watching people with half your resources do the things you’ve been planning since God knows when.

Keep saying, “One day.”

One day is not a date on the calendar, my love.

And the most painful part?

One day, you’ll actually be ready but the world would have moved on.

Maybe then you’d realize that procrastination is not your friend.
