Nobody should deceive you into thinking academic validation is nonsense, especially in Nigeria.

I understand that Nigeria is not an easy country to live in. I understand that people graduate with first-class degrees and still struggle to find jobs. I understand that having excellent grades does not automatically guarantee success.

But why do we focus so much on the fact that academic excellence cannot guarantee success and ignore the opportunities it can create?

Academic validation is sweet😂.There is something satisfying when I put in the work, write my exams, see my results and realise my efforts paid off.

And beyond the satisfaction, there are actual opportunities to consider like Scholarships, postgraduate programmes, research opportunities, and certain jobs can place value on academic performance. A strong academic record can give you an advantage in these situations.

Will I automatically get every opportunity because I have a good degree? Nope

Does that mean i should deliberately neglect my academics because I live in Nigeria? Absolutely not.

I believe we can acknowledge the difficulties of this country without discouraging students from pursuing academic excellence.

Of course, your grades should not be the only thing you have going for you. Develop practical skills. Learn how to communicate. Build relationships. Explore opportunities outside the classroom. Find ways to make yourself valuable beyond your certificate.

But please, do not let anyone convince you that being serious about your academics is a waste of time.

You can pursue a first-class degree and learn a practical skill. You can enjoy getting excellent grades and still explore other opportunities. You can be academically brilliant and financially intelligent. You do not have to choose between being book-smart and being street-smart,you can be both 🙃.

Academic validation is sweet, and the opportunities it can create are worth taking seriously.

Nigeria may be difficult, but I don't think that should be an excuse for giving up on academic excellence.

Do your best. Get those A's. Develop yourself beyond the classroom, too, and if you have the opportunity to excel academically, why should you deliberately settle for less?

Do you guys agree with me .Is academic excellence still worth pursuing in Nigeria🙃.

At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.

The all-time contributors ranking is based on the Contributor Score, which is a measure of all the engagement and exposure a contributor's content receives.
The monthly contributors ranking tracks performance of a user's insights for the current month. The monthly and all-time scores are calcuated DIFFERENTLY.
