BEING YOU SHOULD BE YOUR ONLY RULE

Sometimes, I think we spend too much time trying to figure out who we should be.

Be more like this person.

Dress like that person.

Talk this way.

Act this way.

Have your life figured out by this age.

And somehow, in the middle of trying to become everything everyone expects us to be, we forget the person we actually are.

I don’t think being yourself means you should never change. Growth is necessary. Learning is necessary. Becoming better is necessary.

But there is a difference between growing into yourself and changing yourself just to be accepted.

You shouldn’t have to constantly edit your personality because someone thinks you’re too loud, too quiet, too emotional, too ambitious, too different, or simply too you.

There will always be people who don’t understand you. There will always be people who think you should be something else.

But what happens when you spend your whole life trying to become their version of you?

Who do you become then?

Maybe being you should be your only rule.

Not because everyone will like you.

But because, at the end of the day, you are the one who has to live with yourself. ✨

So maybe the question isn’t “Do people like who I am?”

Maybe it should be:

“Do I like who I am becoming?”
