NOT EVERYTHING YOU LOSE WAS MEANT TO BE REPLACED

I’ve always found it funny how we humans deal with loss.

Something leaves our lives and the first thing we start thinking about is what can replace it.

A person leaves?

Find another person.

You lose an opportunity?

Look for another one.

Something doesn’t work out?

Immediately, we start searching for something else to fill the space.

But what if not everything that leaves is supposed to be replaced?

What if some things are simply supposed to leave?

Hmm.

Because sometimes we hold on to the idea that if something was important to us, then losing it means we have to find something else that gives us that same feeling.

And when we don’t?

We start thinking something is wrong with us.

Maybe we’re not trying hard enough.

Maybe we’re not moving on fast enough.

Maybe we should have found something better by now.

But who said moving forward means replacing what you lost?

Sometimes moving forward is just accepting that it happened.

You had that friendship.

You had that opportunity.

You had that version of yourself.

You had that dream.

And then, for one reason or another, you lost it.

That doesn’t automatically mean something else has to take its place.

Some things leave behind lessons.

Some leave memories.

Some leave scars.

And some simply leave space for you to become someone different.

I think we sometimes make healing harder because we are too focused on finding a replacement.

We want the new friend.

The new relationship.

The new opportunity.

The new dream.

The new version of ourselves.

And before we know it, we’re rushing into something else just because we don’t know how to sit with the emptiness.

But maybe emptiness isn’t always something to fear.

Maybe sometimes you need that empty space.

Maybe you’re supposed to sit there for a while and ask yourself:

“Who am I now that this thing is no longer here?”

Because not everything you lose is a vacancy waiting to be filled.

Some things are simply chapters that have ended.

And as painful as that may be…

an ending doesn’t always require a replacement.

Sometimes, it just requires acceptance.

And maybe, just maybe, that is enough. 🤎
