Delulu Lagos

I have one trillion naira in Lagos Life.

Yes, you read that correctly. 😂

Please, don't talk to me.

And if you have been anywhere on Nigerian Twitter these past few days, you have probably seen people casually announcing their Lagos Life wealth like they just became the newest Dangote.

“Don't stress me. I have ₦1 trillion.”

“I'm not available. I'm rich.”

And I was just there looking at everybody like,

What exactly is Lagos Life? 😂

So yesterday, I decided to enter the rabbit hole.

Come, let's gist. ☕️

Lagos Life is a Nigerian-built browser-based life simulation game that launched on October 1, 2026 — Nigeria's Independence Day.

Funny enough, while we were busy writing about Japa, Nigeria, independence and the realities of being Nigerian on TwoCents, somebody was building a whole virtual Nigeria for us to enter.

I'll enter his gates with singing...

Hallelujah 😂

Hold on...let's continue...

In the game, you create a character and enter a virtual Lagos where you can work, earn money, pay rent, buy food, get a house, build skills, meet people, chat, move around different locations and basically… live another life.

There are jobs, rent, transport, relationships and businesses. There are even virtual billboards where players can spend their in-game money to put things in front of other players.

Basically, you are doing Lagos again.

Inside your browser. 😂

The craziest and funniest part of this whole brouhaha...

The game understands that life does not start from the same place for everybody. You can get different starting advantages. It plays with the whole “NEPO Baby” versus “LAPO Baby” idea. Meaning your virtual life can start with different levels of resources and Nigerians have completely entered the joke.

People are posting about their billions.

People are flexing imaginary wealth.

People are meeting other players.

People are making memes.

People are basically living another Nigerian life while sitting with their phone or laptop.

This country na cruise ajeh😂

And here's where it gets interesting.

Why are we enjoying this thing so much?

I don't think it's only because the game is funny.

Think about real life for a second.

You can work hard and still not get the result you expected. You can have a brilliant idea and still struggle to get people to notice it. You can save money and an emergency will come and finish it. Real life has a lot of delayed results.

Lagos Life doesn't. You work, earn, spend, make a decision.

You see what happens.

You want a better house?

Work towards it.

You want more money?

Find a way to earn it.

You want to spend?

Spend.

There is something satisfying about that immediate cause and effect. And maybe that's part of why people are so drawn to it.

For a few minutes, you get to experience a version of life where your choices produce visible outcomes.

And suddenly you have ₦1 trillion and you are disturbing everybody on the internet. 😂

Delulu or Solulu?😂

Let's talk about another thing people have been saying. Some people have looked at everyone playing Lagos Life and gone,

“These people are idle.”

And I have one question.

If playing Lagos Life is idleness,

What are we calling watching football?

The global games market is projected to generate about $213.9 billion in 2026, with roughly 3.7 billion players worldwide.

People are not just pressing buttons for fun.

There are developers, designers, animators, writers, sound engineers, streamers, content creators, professional players, advertisers, brands and entrepreneurs. There is an actual economy sitting inside gaming.

And Lagos Life is giving us a very interesting Nigerian example of what happens when culture meets technology.

A Nigerian developer created a game around experiences Nigerians understand. The everyday things we complain about suddenly became something people wanted to experience digitally.

And within days, the game reported more than one million players. The creator has also built advertising into the virtual city, with spaces that businesses can pay to place their brands in front of players.

The bigger question isn't even,

“Why are Nigerians playing Lagos Life?”

But..

“What happens when we start building more things that Nigerians actually recognise themselves in?”

Because clearly, people want to see themselves.

They want to laugh at things they understand.

They want to meet people.

They want to play.

They want to escape for a while.

They want to explore.

They want to be ₦1 trillion rich, even if the money disappears when they close the tab. 😂

I haven't even played Lagos Life yet.

Oh..noo...I don't like playing any game including candy crushhh😩

I just kept seeing everybody shouting about their imaginary billions and thought,

“Wait. What is going on here?”

So I went to find out.

And now you know too.

If you have played Lagos Life, please come and explain yourself in the comments.

And if you haven't

well…

Some people have ₦1 trillion waiting for them.

Please respect their privacy. 😂
