This is a shout-out to Nigerian mothers.

Our mothers who traumatize us in the name of discipline.

Our mothers who call us whores in the name of correction.

Our mothers who insult us so we’ll be perfect for marriage.

Our mothers who think disgracing us in front of other kids would keep us from falling out of line.

Our mothers that disgrace us for jokes.

Our mothers that report us to their friends like we represent everything they’re ashamed of.

Our mothers that ruin our reputations in the name of reporting us.

Our hypocritical mothers who are angels to the rest of the world but the cause of their daughters’ PTSD.

Our mothers who are the loudest when asked to pray for their children and the loudest when cursing their daughters.

Our mothers who would cover up rape because they don’t want to face the shame of being related to the girl that got raped.

Our mothers who’d hate their daughters for “seducing” their husbands. Meanwhile, the girl never asked for any of this.

Our mothers who’d paint their daughters in colors that don’t belong to them because they can’t seem to see the good in them.

Our mothers who would always compare us to the “good” cousin that’s the “perfect” daughter.

Our mothers who make our homes feel like prison.

Our mothers who are the good women and good wives but bad mothers.

Our mothers that make us feel like we’re in a competition with them.

Our mothers that tormented us as kids and teenagers but suddenly want a relationship with us as adults.

But mummy that cannot happen because the time you told me “you’re not my daughter”, still replays in my head.

And you guys wonder why girls are not all that close to their mothers.

You wonder why some of us can’t stay in the same space as our mothers for long.

You wonder why some people would rather not go home.

For some people, there might be love at home and for some of us it’s trauma.

We’re prisoners in our own homes and we can’t even escape.

At every chance we get, we run away from home.

Some people would even take drastic measures just to escape their mothers.

“Omo tiya ba nife, niya bawi”

Personally, I think this saying was created to cover up the evil.

There’s a clear line between discipline and torture.

There are words my mother has said to me that I’d never forget as I live and breathe.

“Oh, she’s training you”

“You’re overreacting”

Call it what you must, but…..it’s torture to us.

I hope you guys will be happy to know that you’ve broken us.

Rather than be who we run to, you’re the ones we run from.

Well, congratulations. You ruined us.

At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.
Top Engagers
For the Top Engagers Track, we award the top 3 people who engage the most with other user's content via
comments.
The winners are picked using the "Top Monthly Engagers" tab on the rankings page.
Most Engaged Content
The Most Engaged Content recognizes users whose content received the most engagement during the month.
We pick the top 3.
The winners are picked using the "Top Monthly Contributors" tab on the rankings page.
Contributor Rankings
The Rankings/Leaderboard shows the Top 20 contributors and engagers on TwoCents a monthly and all-time basis
— as well as the most active colleges (users attending/that attended those colleges)
The all-time contributors ranking is based on the Contributor Score, which is a measure of all the engagement and exposure a contributor's content receives.
The monthly contributors ranking tracks performance of a user's insights for the current month. The monthly and all-time scores are calcuated DIFFERENTLY.
This page also shows the top engagers on an all-time & monthly basis.
