The Rot At The Heart of Akpabio's Senate
<p>I just watched a video where the Senate was asked to vote on a motion. The "ayes" clearly had it. In fact, there was not a single voice of "nay", yet the Senate President ruled in favour of nays and clearly stated, "the nays have it"😳</p><p>I have a salad of feelings running through me at this point, ranging from amazement, annoyance and bewilderment, to say the least.</p><p>This constant and blatant disregard for rules, the principles of fair hearing, and due process, coupled with the adoption of motions where Sen. Akpabio repeatedly exercises his veto in ways that appear to defy common sense, all in a bid to serve his master and demonstrate loyalty, undermines the institution and defeats the very purpose of having a Senate in the first place.</p><p><br/></p><p>But alas, even at the highest levels of power, Nigerians remain the same: willing to trade self-respect, integrity and the will of the people for party loyalty and ethno-religious sentiments.</p><p><br/></p><p>Otherwise, what exactly does it take to remove Akpabio from that position and bring him down from his high horse? No be just two-thirds majority? Yet, somehow, they all seem united when it comes to protecting their own interests. Greed has a way of bringing strange bedfellows together.</p><p><br/></p><p>If una still think say peaceful protests or midnight prayers alone or praying for dem politicians to die go change anything for this country, you might just be living in a bubble.</p><p>Because at some point, we have to confront this monster. Those who benefit from a broken system have very little incentive to fix it.</p><p><br/></p><p>It's only violence that can give us the result we want, so when we are ready to take back our country, make una alert me. I no follow una wey don decide to dey pamper our problems.</p>
