After the kiss, we just sat there like nothing had happened and burst out laughing. He had that look the kind that made me instantly shy away because I knew exactly what it meant.

He didn’t let go though. He kept looking, and when I tried to push him off, he held me back with that stubborn smile. I ended up laughing with him, because how else could I respond?

Eventually, he stood to go get a glass. I refused to let him go alone, insisting he carry me along. At first, he acted like I was stressing him, but after a few minutes, he gave in. He scooped me up and carried me with him to the kitchen.

He placed me on the counter, but I refused to let go. I wrapped my legs around him and demanded a kiss before he moved. He obliged with a quick one, but I teased him until he kissed me again.

When he reached for the glasses, he ended up handing them to me just so he could lift me back down.

We returned to the living room and poured ourselves drinks. We ate, drank, and tried to focus on the horror movie playing, though it was mostly me watching.

He kept side-eyeing the screen, making jokes about how it wasn’t funny but I was laughing like it was comedy.

Then he shook his head and warned, half-jokingly, that he better not make me angry one day or I might “off him” with one of the creepy methods I found so amusing in horror films.

Later on, he grew tired and went in to sleep, leaving me alone in the sitting room. I got bored eventually and wandered into the room, only to find out he’d been calling me quietly, asking if I was done so we could cuddle.

I slipped into bed, and we lay in each other’s arms. There was something soft about that moment, the way his body fit around mine.

We whispered small talks until the silence between us was comfortable. I couldn’t stop noticing his expressions the little faces he made whenever I said something unbelievable or hard to process.

His reactions were cute in a way I hadn’t seen before, and I found myself memorizing them.

Just as I was drifting off, he asked quietly, almost as if he didn’t want me to hear:

“So why were you really avoiding me then?”

I stirred, half-asleep, and asked him to repeat it. But he only pulled me closer, whispering, “Never mind,” before pressing his face against my neck and breathing me in.

With sleep tugging at me, I couldn’t explain the feeling but something else was brewing inside me. Something I wasn’t ready to name.
