The Older I Get, The Less I Want To Win Arguments
<p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>Back in the days, I could argue over a sentence like my life depended on punctuation.</p><p><br/></p><p>Some conversations became battles.</p><p><br/></p><p>Some battles became silence.</p><p><br/></p><p>And some silences lasted longer than they needed to.</p><p><br/></p><p>Looking back, I realise I wasn't always fighting because I was right.</p><p><br/></p><p>Sometimes I was fighting because I wanted to be understood.</p><p><br/></p><p>There is a difference.</p><p><br/></p><p>Work has taught me another version of the same lesson.</p><p><br/></p><p>You meet people who celebrate you.</p><p><br/></p><p>You meet people who tolerate you.</p><p><br/></p><p>And sometimes, you meet people who become uncomfortable simply because you are doing well.</p><p><br/></p><p>I used to want to explain myself.</p><p><br/></p><p>I don't anymore.</p><p><br/></p><p>“Okay.”</p><p><br/></p><p>That's become one of my favourite words.</p><p><br/></p><p>Not because they are right.</p><p><br/></p><p>Not because I am wrong.</p><p><br/></p><p>I just suddenly remembered that tomorrow exists.</p><p><br/></p><p>There was a time I thought silence meant I had lost.</p><p><br/></p><p>Now I know silence can mean I have finally understood the assignment.</p><p><br/></p><p>Because what exactly do you win when you prove your point but lose your peace?</p><p><br/></p><p>What do you win when you win the argument but lose the relationship?</p><p><br/></p><p>What do you win when you give the perfect comeback and spend the next three hours wishing you had kept quiet?</p><p><br/></p><p>Sometimes you can see the envy and choose not to feed it.</p><p><br/></p><p>Sometimes you can know the truth and refuse to audition for the role of explaining it.</p><p><br/></p><p>Let people have their versions.</p><p><br/></p><p>Not every misunderstanding needs a courtroom.</p><p><br/></p><p>Not every disagreement needs a winner.</p><p><br/></p><p>And not every person needs to understand you before you move on.</p><p><br/></p><p>The older I get, the less interested I am in the last word.</p><p><br/></p><p>Because I have discovered something:</p><p><br/></p><p>**Sometimes the last word is just the beginning of another argument.**</p><p><br/></p><p>And honestly?</p><p><br/></p><p>I'm tired.</p><p><br/></p><p>I have things to do.</p><p><br/></p><p>Let them win.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>I have peace to protect</strong>.</p><p><br/></p>
